Daniela Hantuchova Beats Venus

Daniela Hantuchova brought Venus Williams' Eastbourne comeback to an end as she beat the former world number one in three sets.

The world number twenty nine made the brighter start as a double break saw her ease her way to the opening set 6-2.

But the wind was a major factor in the second set and it was Williams who coped the better of the two players as she fought back from a 4-2 defect to level the match at a set a piece.

But Williams, who has been out of action since the Australian Open with a hip injury, was not able to keep it up in the decider as an early break gave Hantuchova the momentum.

Williams got just two games on the board in that final game as Hantuchova reasserted her dominance to wrap up a 6-2 5-7 6-2 victory.

Speaking to the BBC after the match Hantuchova said: "I felt I came out and played well early in the match.

"But then the wind picked up and it got difficult for both of us. It was then about who had the mentality and I came through.

"This is my most favourite time of the year - the grass season - and I'm feeling really good. My form is good."

Hantuchova will now face Petra Kvitova in the semi-finals as she had to fight back from a set down against Agnieszka Radwanska.

It was all Radwanska in that opening set as she took it 6-1 before Kvitova finally pulled herself together in the second set.

It was an equally one sided set as Kavitova dropped just two games on her way to levelling the match at a set a piece.

The decider was much more competitive and a tie-break was required to decide the winner and it was Kvitova who came through 1-6 6-2 7-6 (7-2).

Google won't directly sell tickets

As part of Google's ongoing quest to know EVERYTHING about you so they can use that data to sell ads, they plan to launch a travel search service similar to that of Kayak, Expedia and Orbitz, where users can find the best deals on airfare.

This news comes in the midst of a battle between travel sites and airline companies over monetary matters, and will certainly add an interesting twist to everything else going on. Google won't directly sell tickets, however. Instead, they'll refer you another travel site or directly to the airline website. And beyond just showing you the cheapest available flights, Google wants to make travel planning ridiculously easy, by telling you where to go. From the NY Times article:

Google has said that it wants to develop a more advanced kind of flight search than those currently in use. The way it explained the new search, travelers could type in that they want to go to a warm, child-friendly destination in March for less than $300 - and Google would present the options.

Predictably, Kayak and Expedia aren't happy about this and are trying to block Google from purchasing, ITA Software, who make programs for flight price comparison. Would you use Google to book your next trip?

MSNBC has sporting chance after Comcast takeover

The FCC has approved Comcast's takeover of NBC Universal. The US$30 billion deal will give Comcast 51% of the company, while GE will retain 49%.

As the largest American cable TV provider, Comcast is more concerned with acquiring NBCU's profitable cable outlets rather than its struggling broadcast network.

Comcast will try to become even more competitive, which could mean re-thinking MSNBC. The network began as a venture with Microsoft but slowly devolved into a shouty, left-leaning circus.

The solution? A new sports network to compete with ESPN's monopoly. Keith Olbermann began as a sportscaster and would be able to help his colleagues through the transition.

Think of all the new programming possibilities ... On second thought, maybe they should just stick to news.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords - Gawker's Adrian Chen spoke (update)

Gawker's Adrian Chen spoke to an eyewitness who says that the gunman walked up to Giffords and shot her in the head first. After shooting her he opened fire on the others, and was then tackled by a member of Giffords' staff. The shooter is described as being in his mid-to-late 20s, who looked like a "fringe character."

(via NPR)

U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot in the head outside a grocery store in Tucson while holding a public event, Arizona Public Media reported Saturday.

The Democrat, who was re-elected to her third term in November, was hosting a "Congress on Your Corner" event at the Safeway in northwest Tucson when a gunman ran up and started shooting, according to Peter Michaels, news director of Arizona Public Media.

At least nine other people, including members of her staff, were hurt. Giffords was transported to University Medical Center in Tucson. Her condition was not immediately known.

Giffords was talking to a couple when the suspect ran up firing indiscriminately and then ran off, Michaels said.

The suspect was tackled by a bystander and taken into custody. He was not injured. Witnesses described him as in his late teens or early 20s.

Giffords was first elected to represent Arizona's 8th District in 2006. The "Congress on Your Corner" events allow constituents to present their concerns directly to her.

Is 12 Too Young to Start Dating?

CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller chatted about it with group of middle-schoolers and high-school freshmen from Hackensack, N.J.

She says those views aren't what they used to be regarding the appropriate age to begin to date.

"I think it doesn't really matter about age too much, if you feel like a relationship could mean something to you," said Jane, 14.

The general consensus from the group was that 12 seems to be a good age to begin dating. However, Miller finds that, at that age, the word dating means very different things to different people.

Middle-schooler Giovanni, said, "Some people just hang out with their boyfriend or girlfriend. They hug them and kiss them. But some people get sexual about it."

Statistics show that 46 percent of teens between the ages of 15-19 have had sex at least once. Teens are exposed to intimate relationships early on.

"I've seen pregnant girls walking around the hall. I've heard people talk about doing 'it.' I've heard cases of people doing it in the school. It's just overwhelming," said Ted, 15.

Miller was joined on "The Early Show" Wednesday by Linda Fears, editor in chief of Family Circle magazine and Momster.com, as well as Dr. Jennifer Hartstein, an adolescent and child psychologist, to discuss what they think is appropriate when it comes teens, dating, and sex.

Fears said, "The truth is there isn't a right age. You really have to know your child. You have to have had lots of conversations about this so they're aware of your expectations, your family values."

While sex is one thing to be concerned about, Miller was also concerned about the ability of these kids to develop emotional relationships because of the frequency of hooking up and casual encounters.

Fears said, "It's made to be casual to them because it is everywhere. It's in movies, on TV, all over the Internet, and in music lyrics. Sex is all around them 24/7. And so they've become really desensitized to it."

Hartstein said, "We want to each our kids that it's really not just about sex. It's really about relationships and caring for another person. And building love between two people. Because we get so focused on the sex part, we forget that the relationship comes in behind it, and our kids are missing some of that."

She added that there's no definite answer or a set age parents can agree on to allow their children to begin dating. When it comes down talking to your children about relationships, sex, and intimacy, it is never too early, she says , suggesting that parents should "have as many teachable moments, have as many opportunities to discuss it as possible."

How to recycle batteries

When my electric toothbrush stopped working last week, I removed the batteries. I wanted to recycle them but didn't know how. Fortunately, there are plenty of options.

Americans throw out almost 180,000 tons of batteries each year, most of them single-use, according to Earth911.com, which runs a private database that lists recyclers.

"If we start replacing single-use batteries with rechargeables," it says, "we are not only saving money, but ensuring that fewer batteries end up in landfills as well." Most batteries contain contain metals such as lead and mercury that can leach into soil and contaminate groundwater.

What to do? Mother Nature Network says most retailers of car batteries such as AutoZone and Advance Auto Parts are authorized to collect and recycle them for free

How To Make Easy Money From Global Forex Trading

There are different forms of business. But the easiest way of making money is to trade forex. One of the leading providers of forex trading in real times basis is the global forex trading. It started out its operation since 1997.

It gives chances to individuals to trade forex online on real times and it offers an opportunity to most forex brokers to earn millions each day.

Global forex trading is currently serving over one hundred countries. It uses the DealBrook FX2 software and provides twenty four hours access on the forex market.

It is also equipped with the highest quality of consumer service which is widely available in the industry of forex trading. The forex brokers are given the opportunity to have an access on the prices of over sixty currency pairs and provide analytical services from renowned experts.

The traders are also updated with the latest news bulletin on currency status and available forex charts. Global forex trading is the only provider of trading platforms on forex suitable for beginners as well as professionals.

There are various advantages when trading forex. It is very accessible since it is open twenty four hours besides having the most liquid market. The leverage strategy is always available wherein the traders have the option in using a 100:1 leverage. This reduces the need for larger capitals that is to be opened on the traders account.

Forex trading has no commission and the trading is widely available over sixty currencies all over the world. Forex trading is globally available that is why the traders have wider trading opportunities regardless of any market conditions.

Don’t assume that forex trading is only for big investors because of the given advantages. Global forex trading have open the way for smaller transactions. In this way, both small and big investors are given the opportunity to gain profits from trading forex.

In rare cases, some people assume that the market for global forex trading dwarfs the equities. However, this is not true because the volume of forex trading even exceeds two trillion dollars each day. So, global forex trading is considered the leader in the field of competitive market exchange. There are several reasons why global forex trading is very exciting.

-The forex market is widely available. The traders can trade currencies twenty four hours a day, seven days a week regardless of its fluctuations. This provides greater market opportunity for traders compared to equities which can only transact business on market hours or when stock exchanges are available.

-The global forex trading potential leverage is astounding. Compared to stock trading, the trader can either trade with the money that they have or open margin accounts and double the leverage when trading. Take for example, you funded your margin accounts with 25,000 then you can control an equity position of 50,000. But in global forex trading, your original capital can obtain leverages up to 20, 50, or even 100 times.

In this manner, the traders can open a forex brokerage online with only 5,000 dollars and can control positions up to 200,000 dollars or above. And if the trader can fund an account with 10,000 dollars then he can control positions up to 500,000 dollars. So, whether the trader can only gain 5% on the positions, then it would still be equivalent to a 25,000 dollars gain with only an initial capital of 10,000 dollars.

-There are lots of traders in the forex market. However, even if it is possible to earn fast profits, the risk of losing is also very high. That is why the technical and fundamental analysis of forex markets is very important. It is advisable for traders to get forex education to have a good start. It could increase their chance of becoming successful forex traders. The traders should guard their business from potential losses.

Global forex trading is indeed a high speculative endeavor. Keep in mind that the traders who are successful in trading forex are those who are methodical, have strong controls over their emotions and impulses, fault-analytical, and disciplined. The traders can really earn big profits in just a few days of trading, it will grow as the time goes by, however only avoid making any mistakes.

Computer Trades Are Focus in Wall Street Plunge

Investigators seeking an explanation for the brief stock market panic last week said Sunday that they were focusing increasingly on how a controlled slowdown in trading on the New York Stock Exchange, meant to bring about stability, instead set off uncontrolled selling on electronic exchanges.

It was an unintended consequence of a system built to place a circuit breaker on stocks in sharp decline. In theory, trades slow down so that sellers can find buyers the old-fashioned way, by hand, one by one. The electronic exchanges did not slow down in tandem, causing problems, according to two officials familiar with the investigation.

That could mean that the computers first flooded the market with sell orders that could not be matched with buyers. Then, just as quickly, many of these networks withdrew from trading. The combined effect might have set off a chain reaction that sent shares of many companies spiraling during the 15-minute frenzy.

After a weekend of analysis, many specialists at the major exchanges no longer believe that a single large sell trade in one stock, like that of Procter & Gamble, was the trigger, according to the people familiar with the investigation. Instead, they suspect that a mismatch in rules between the older New York Stock Exchange and younger electronic exchanges set off a frightening sequence of events.
